Tower visibility test

MOUNT DESERT — A visibility test for a proposed New Cingular Wireless cell phone tower about a mile north of the village of Northeast Harbor is scheduled for Jan. 15.

A balloon will be suspended 125 feet in the air – the height of the proposed tower – at the tower site off Gate House Road, and photos will be taken from various locations in the surrounding area to gauge the tower’s visual impact. Anyone who owns a residence within one mile of the tower site may request that photos be taken from outside their home. More information and a photo permission form are at

If wind or fog do not permit the visibility test to be conducted Jan. 15, it will be rescheduled for one of the next two days.
