Tower visibility test

MOUNT DESERT — A visibility test for a proposed New Cingular Wireless cell phone tower about a mile north of the village of Northeast Harbor is scheduled for Jan. 15.

A balloon will be suspended 125 feet in the air – the height of the proposed tower – at the tower site off Gate House Road, and photos will be taken from various locations in the surrounding area to gauge the tower’s visual impact. Anyone who owns a residence within one mile of the tower site may request that photos be taken from outside their home. More information and a photo permission form are at ebiconsulting.com/info/gatehouse-tower.html.

If wind or fog do not permit the visibility test to be conducted Jan. 15, it will be rescheduled for one of the next two days.
