BAR HARBOR — The historic Art Deco Criterion Theatre will light up the night on Thursday, April 9, when its new marquee is illuminated for the first time.

The party begins at 6:30 p.m. with grilled hot dogs and refreshments; a band will play under the marquee. At 7 p.m., a presentation inside the theater will introduce all of the businesses and individuals whose generous donations made it possible for the marquee to be refurbished.

Then, at 7:15 p.m., it’s back to the sidewalk to throw the switch and light up the marquee, which was installed on March 25.

At 7:30 p.m., the Criterion presents a free digital concert on the big screen: Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band: Live in Barcelona. Mr. Springsteen has made this concert available at no charge to historic nonprofit theaters.

The new marquee was produced to look like the original by Metal Magic of Trenton, incorporating many of the old components and designed to be more “green” with the use of compact flourescent and LED lights.
