Tan Turtle to close

ELLSWORTH — After a little more than a year in business, The Tan Turtle will close its doors on Oct. 20, according to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page. The affiliated Tan Turtle Tavern in Northeast Harbor will also close.

“The Turtles, as you know them, will be closing their doors at both locations,” the post reads.

The previous restaurant that occupied the space, Primavera, was also there only a year.

Owner Steven Foss and his wife, Mindy Morse-Foss, operated both restaurants, which were open year-round. Menus were similar, featuring family-friendly pub food. The couple often held charity events and fundraisers at their restaurants, said Steven Foss in a previous interview.

“Everybody that knows us from MDI knows we’re always involved in every fundraiser and charity,” Foss said.

Foss said on Tuesday morning that he couldn’t comment on the closing but confirmed that the restaurants would be shutting down on Sunday.

In the post, the couple thanked the community for their support.

“Sunday, October 20th will be our last day. So stop on in and say goodbye to your favorite server or have a drink with your favorite bartender! Thank you all (staff included) for your support!”
