On the Agenda: Choose moderator to preside over Town Meeting; election by secret ballot of selectman and School Board members. In the ballot’s only contested race, Valerie Moon, an assistant tax assessor in Ellsworth is challenging incumbent Steve Bemiss for a three-year term as selectman. Polls open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
When: Monday, April 25, 7 p.m.
Where: Surry Elementary School.
On the Agenda: Meeting reconvenes to act on remaining 74 warrant articles. If all articles pass as written, voters would authorize $2,990,310, including $2,053,973 for school spending supported by taxation. The total figure represents an increase of $13,133 or 0.44 percent over the town’s current spending budget.
Unusual warrant articles: (23) seeks $800 appropriation for future special town meeting to act on article seeking to form a charter commission, (24) seeks $400 for initial administrative costs of charter commission, if such a commission is adopted and (25) seeks $2,000 for initial legal fees for charter commission, if such a commission is authorized. If article 23 is approved, the town would form a charter commission charged with drafting a charter that would act as a guiding document for local government.
Voters also will be asked to adopt three new ordinances: the Town of Surry Patten Stream Alewife Ordinance, the Ordinance for the Recall of Elected Officials and Standards for Small Wind Energy Systems.
