Surry “glampground” development to open in May

SURRY — Under Canvas Acadia is opening in Surry on May 13, according to a press release issued by the company. The development, located off the Surry Road, will feature luxury camping sites with canvas tents.

“Enjoy glamping on 100 acres of waterfront land, with more than 1,200 feet of coastline, just 35 minutes to the acclaimed Cadillac Mountain Trail and more broadly, Acadia National Park,” the company says. “Under Canvas Acadia allows you to explore the beauty of Maine by day and the comforts of home by night.”

“Marked with colorful woodlands and rocky beaches, the great outdoors await guests in Acadia National Park. Complete with 63 safari-style canvas accommodation tents on elevated rocks with private ensuite bathrooms within.”

A night for two in the “Stargazer” tent in May is $329. The total is $390 after a resort fee and occupancy tax.

The camp amenities include housekeeping, a fire pit and s’mores, camp activities, on-site dining, West Elm furnishings and organic bath products.

The location is Under Canvas’s first Northeast location. The company was founded in 2009 and said thus far it has created “nine glamping locations that span the country.”
