SURRY — The annual briefings sponsored by the Surry Community Improvement Association on the upcoming Surry town and school budgets are set for April 10 and 12.
The town budget will be presented by the Board of Selectmen and the school budget will be presented by Superintendent Mark Hurvitt, the school staff and the Surry School Board. Surry citizens may ask questions and get detailed answers before voting on the town and school budgets. Because there will be no in-person Town Meeting this year due to COVID, this is an opportunity for Surry residents to learn about the budgets before voting by referendum.
Candidates for the Board of Selectmen and School Board will also appear to introduce themselves. The election for these positions will be on the same ballot as the referendum on the town and school budgets.
Two identical sessions are planned, so citizens may attend whichever one is more convenient. The first session is Saturday, April 10, at 9:30 a.m., and the second session is Monday, April 12, at 5 p.m.
Both sessions will be held in the gym at the Surry School with masks required. The town will also make both sessions available via Zoom. The link for the Zoom sessions will be on the town’s website, www.townofsurrymaine.com.
