State Police Log Week of Aug. 5



ELLSWORTH — Maine State Police Trooper Kim Sawyer is investigating a crash on Route 9 in Crawford July 28 that claimed the life of Bruce Pierce, 63, of Calais.

Pierce was in a vehicle involved in a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer, police said.

Impaired operation

A Maryland man was charged after driving his vehicle off a 40-foot embankment in a construction area in Amherst Friday, the Maine State Police reported.

Trooper Josh Lander summoned David Maher, 62, on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant. Maher was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries.

Troopers Owen Reed and Taylor Dube assisted.

Traffic stop charges

Trooper Owen Reed charged two people after a traffic stop in Franklin July 26.

Reed summoned Jason French, 49, of Sullivan on a charge of operating after suspension. French’s passenger, Nicole Sargent, 34, of Sullivan, was arrested on a charge of aggravated drug trafficking.

Cpl. Jeff Taylor, Lander and Trooper Jarid Leonard assisted.

Theft

Trooper Keith York responded to Grand Lake Stream July 26 for a theft complaint in which a catalytic converter was stolen from a vehicle during the day. The investigation is continuing.
