Small Earthquake Hits Blue Hill Area



BLUE HILL — A low-level earthquake hit Blue Hill and neighboring towns at about 4:45 this morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the federal source for natural hazards.

The USGS said the earthquake was classified as Intensity II in Blue Hill and Brooklin, Intensity III in Sedgwick and Intensity IV in Deer Isle.

The USGS describes shaking associated with Intensity II and Intensity III earthquakes as “weak” with no damage. Intensity IV earthquakes are described as “light” with no damage.
