Search for new Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce director progresses

ELLSWORTH — The selection process for the next leader of the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce continues this week, as board members work to winnow a field of 26 applicants down to a final choice for a new executive director.

Fred Ehrlenbach, who is heading the search committee, said interviews were conducted on Monday. He declined to name any of the candidates interviewed or to say how many interviews took place.

“There are some very good candidates,” he said.

Ehrlenbach said the search committee is set to regroup on Wednesday and map out the next step or steps in the process.

The need to find a new executive director for the chamber arose when former director Susan Farley’s employment was terminated by the chamber’s executive committee in December.

After she was let go, Farley said she had enjoyed working at the Ellsworth Chamber but that the executive committee “decided to go in a different direction.”

Gretchen Wilson is serving as acting executive director until a permanent director is named.
