School budget, road repairs scrutinized

TREMONT — Voters at the open town meeting Tuesday approved $1.72 million for the municipal budget and $2.38 million for the Tremont Consolidated School in two-and-a-half hours.

Several of the 50 or so voters expressed displeasure with the school budget, a road reconstruction project and revisions to the harbor ordinance.

In the end, all school articles carried by wide margins.

An article to borrow $420,000 to enter into a road reconstruction project with the Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT) met with approval but also had its share of detractors.

The town is to pay 60 percent and the MDOT 40 percent of the cost of rebuilding a .4 mile section of the Tremont Road from the Tremont Consolidated School to just past the Burnt Hill Road.
