BUCKSPORT — Regional School Unit 25 (RSU 25) will hold an emergency School Board meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 6 p.m. in the Bucksport High School library to discuss a COVID-19 outbreak at the Jewett School.
Those interested can watch a live broadcast on YouTube instead of attending in person if they wish. Go to rsu25.org/youtube. The call-in number for comments is 307-8099. Or email comments to [email protected].
Superintendent Jim Boothby said the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) quantifies three cases as an outbreak.
“We’re no longer required to shut down the entire school,” Boothby said.
Meanwhile, permission slips are going out to parents and guardians for “pool testing,” which will start next week.
That means once a week the school does a “lower nasal swab,” said Boothby.
“In 48 hours, we find out if there are any positives,” he said. “If there are, the kids have antigen tests to determine who’s positive. This way you don’t have to stay out of school.”
In related news, the Brooksville School Board is holding a special meeting on Monday, Sept. 20, at 5 p.m. to discuss staff vaccination rates.
