Relay for Life raises $90K

{youtube}rFwj54EOFR4{/youtube}ELLSWORTH — The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event held Friday raised about $90,000.

Community Executive Crystal Derocher, who organizes the local Relay for Life, said that figure is down a bit from last year’s event, which raised $100,000.

Derocher said she wanted to thank participants and sponsors.

“The sponsors really make this event go,” she said. “We had about 500 people there. We had 45 survivors. We had 1,300 luminaria. Those were put out in exchange for a $10 donation.”

The American Cancer Society uses the money raised to fund patient services and research, including cancer research at The Jackson Laboratory.
