Public works moves Friday

BAR HARBOR — The highway and water divisions of the town’s public works department are moving Friday, May 9 into their new, $3.4 million complex off the Crooked Road. The 22,000-square-foot complex, approved by residents with a bond issue at town meeting in 2012, includes separate offices, locker rooms and garage spaces for each division. The location also includes a new indoor salt/sand shed and a pole barn for large equipment storage.

Each division is closed Friday for the move and transfer of phone lines. Residents needing to contact either department are instructed to call the public safety dispatcher at 288-3391 for assistance.

The water company is vacating leased space on Park Street for the move, along with a garage on Edgewood Street, while the highway department leaves their ailing garage at the corner of Ledgelawn Avenue and Cromwell Harbor Road. The garage is likely to be torn down and the land set aside for future expansion of the sewage treatment plant across the street.
