Recount affirms Blaisdell’s victory in probate judge race



ELLSWORTH — Incumbent Republican candidate William B. Blaisdell IV has been confirmed as the winner of the Hancock County judge of probate race, based on the results of a ballot recount completed Thursday, according to Secretary of State Matt Dunlap.

Unofficial preliminary results following the election showed Blaisdell, of Ellsworth, with 13,943 votes and Democratic candidate Lynne A. Williams of Bar Harbor with 13,886 votes, a difference of 57 votes.

Due to the close margin, Williams requested a recount. The recount began Wednesday, Nov. 28, and was conducted at the Elkins Building in Augusta. The results confirm Blaisdell as the winner of the election, with 13,924 votes to Williams’13,899.

The recount included 1,133 blank ballots, for a total of 28,956 ballots in the race.

In a recount, the representatives of each candidate and staff members from the Department of the Secretary of State manually review each ballot to determine the official vote tally.
