ELLSWORTH — The deadline for signatures for the people’s veto effort to repeal a 2017 law delaying the implementation of ranked choice voting is Friday, Feb. 2.
Volunteers are driving all over Maine to submit the final signatures to clerks on the last day to get them verified. Volunteers will then pick them up and return signatures to headquarters prior to the final submission to the Secretary of State’s Office.
State voters approved ranked choice voting in November 2016. In October 2017, however, state legislators voted to delay and possibly repeal the law.
Ranked choice voting supporters responded by filing a people’s veto to implement the law for primary and federal elections beginning with the 2018 June primaries.
