BLUE HILL — A Blue Hill native has announced his candidacy for U.S. Senate.

Benjamin Pollard, a builder from Portland, will launch a campaign for the U.S. Senate Thursday, Dec. 21.

Pollard ran for the Democratic nomination for Senate in 2012 and finished fourth out of a field of four candidates with 8 percent of the vote.

Pollard plans to launch his campaign by recording a video of a speech announcing his candidacy from the summit of Cadillac Mountain just after dawn on the shortest day of the year.

Pollard said the theme of his campaign is “A New Day is Coming” in “this dark time of geopolitical instability and domestic political strife.”

Pollard will distribute the video to friends and supporters via email and social media.

Pollard is a graduate of George Stevens Academy. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in international relations from Stanford University. He also has a Master of Environmental Studies degree from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.

The candidate is president of Pollard Builders. He also has worked as a forest manager, a research analyst, an equity analyst, a carpenter, a news reporter and a news editor.
