BAR HARBOR — A police dispatcher here is on the run. Lori Bartlett plans to compete in the famous Boston Marathon in several weeks to raise money for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
She is one of a handful of Mainers scheduled to compete in the 26.3-mile race – one of the oldest and most prestigious marathons in the U.S. Just one other Mount Desert Island resident, Suzanne Bracy from Southwest Harbor, is listed as a competitor.
“Cancer affects so many people,” said Bartlett. “Everyone has a family member or a close friend who is affected by it.” She dedicates her efforts to her late grandfather, Fred Siegwarth, who passed away from colon cancer more than a decade ago.
