DEER ISLE — The Evergreen Garden Club of Deer Isle/Stonington will be holding its annual plant sale outdoors behind the old Deer Isle Elementary School (across from the Congregational Church on Route 15) on Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to noon. The rain date is Sunday, May 22.
Most of the proceeds of the sale in the past have gone to maintaining the 23½-acre Mariners Memorial Park in Deer Isle, which is owned and maintained by the club and open to the public. This year, the proceeds from the raffle portion of the sale will be going directly to the new Evergreen Endowment Fund.
Master Gardener Volunteers Bob and Linda Allen have started and “seeded” the Evergreen Endowment Fund through the Maine Community Foundation. The fund is meant to help pay for the annual maintenance costs of insurance, mowing and road maintenance in the park.
At the plant sale, Master Gardeners and experienced garden club members will be on hand to answer your gardening questions. Plants available include perennials, herbs, vegetable and flower seedlings, fruit trees and rhubarb plants, with many being native to Maine.
