Ormsby Handed Three Life Sentences

HOULTON – A former Ellsworth resident convicted of a triple slaying in Amity was sentenced Thursday to serve three life sentences.

Thayne Ormsby, 22, was sentenced in Houlton Superior Court for the 2010 murders of a former Trenton resident, Jeffrey Ryan, 55; Ryan’s 10-year-old son, Jesse Ryan; and 30-year-old Jason DeHahn.

Ormsby, who was living in the Aroostook County town of Orient when the stabbing deaths occurred, was convicted of the murders on April 13. His trial then moved into a second phase, where his insanity plea was rejected and he was found criminally responsible for the killings.

The sentencing before Justice E. Allen Hunter began at 9:30 a.m. and concluded at 1:40 p.m., according to a court clerk

After the June 2010 slayings, Ormsby left the Amity area and was arrested July 3, 2010 on a fugitive from justice charge after police located him in Dover, N.H. and had him extradited to Maine. He has been held at the Aroostook County Jail since his arrest.
