ORLAND — Members of the Orland Fire Department conducted a training burn May 25 on Leaches Point, at a house donated by Orland resident John Wardwell.
Firefighters had several preliminary training sessions on procedures such as roof ventilation. Later, they focused on firefighter safety and accountability, pumper and hose operation and exterior fire attack. The training was conducted under the supervision of officers and other experienced firefighters. Although the wind was gusty at times, rain the previous week and periodic heavy showers during the training burn itself provided a safe environment with wet grass and saturated ground.
