ORLAND — The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the theft of an all-terrain vehicle and boat motor from the Orland Fire Department.
The items were stolen from a locked building on Fire Department property sometime in late January or early February.
Reported missing was a dark green ATV Honda Rancher and a Mercury 25-horsepower boat motor.
The effect of the theft goes beyond Orland. The Fire Department often provides mutual aid to neighboring communities in need of help with rescue missions or fighting fires.
The Orland Fire Department is all-volunteer. Money to buy the stolen equipment came from donations and fund-raising activities.
Anyone with information about the missing ATV or boat should contact the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department at 667-7575.
