BUCKSPORT — A new day care is opening at 7 Mercer Lane on Nov. 3.
For those considering sending children to Munchkinland, the women starting the business are holding two open houses this month.
The first is Saturday, Oct. 18, from noon to 4 p.m. The second is Tuesday, Oct. 21, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Lori Baillargeon and Lynn Whitney, who are sisters, are holding the open houses to address any questions.
Earlier this year, a day care business that had rented the same space was closed by the state Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) for alleged safety violations. That DHHS investigation found no structural issues with the building.
According to Baillargeon, the open houses are for interested parents and guardians to develop their own impression of the new business owners. They’re both certified nursing assistants with training in infection control and CPR, including for infants, Baillargeon said.
Originally, she and Whitney, who come from the Bucksport area, had tried to start Munchkinland in the Orland Community Center. Zoning restrictions prevented them from doing so.
