Open Bucksport Police Chief Job Draws 28 Applicants

BUCKSPORT — Twenty-eight applicants from all over the country are in the running for police chief.

Current Chief Douglas Gray is set to retire early this summer.

Town Manager Roger Raymond started interviewing candidates this week. He said he hopes to recommend three people to the Appointments Committee by the end of the month.

Two waterfront projects have resumed as the ground thaws. Scheduled work at Peary’s Landing, located behind the new Combined Sewer Overflow plant, includes the construction of a pond, fountain and water wheel.

In a separate project, the town is extending the waterfront walkway under the Bucksport-Verona Island bridge to Hannaford.

Both projects are scheduled to be completed by July 31.

In other business, the council authorized Raymond to seek proposals for an energy consultant to conduct energy audits of town buildings.

The town may collaborate with the School Department on the project.

The town will also seek proposals for a consultant to help with a study of the Silver Lake Boat Landing.

Access to and parking at the landing has long been a problem, according to Raymond.
