Nomination papers available for city’s November election

ELLSWORTH — The city has announced that nomination papers for the Nov. 2 local election will be available starting Monday, Aug. 9, at the city clerk’s office. The following seats are up for election:

  • Two three-year seats on the City Council, currently held by Heather Grindle and John Phillips.
  • One three-year seat on the School Board, currently held by Abigail Miller.
  • One one-year seat on the School Board, currently held by Muneer Hasham. This seat was left vacant when Jennifer Alexander stepped down in June of 2021 for a term that ends in 2022. The School Board appointed Hasham through the 2021 local elections, and the candidate elected in November will serve the remaining year of Alexander’s term.
  • Two three-year seats on the Library Board of Trustees currently held by S. Craig McDonald and Ronald Fortier.

The deadline for submitting papers to the city clerk’s office is Friday, Sept. 17, at 5 p.m. At least 50 but not more than 100 signatures are required for nomination papers to meet state requirements and for the candidate to appear on the Nov. 2 municipal election ballot.

For more information, visit or call the city clerk’s office at 669-6604.
