New Tremont manager named

TREMONT – Selectmen here didn’t have to look far to find a replacement for town manager Millard Billings. The town’s tax assessor and code enforcement officer will take over the job when Billings retires at the end of June.

Selectmen voted unanimously at a Jan. 10 emergency selectmen’s meeting to hire Carl Young as town manager. Young will begin his new position on July 1.

The search for a new town manager began in November, after Billings announced he would be leaving the job when his contract expires on June 30. Billings became town manager in October 2003. Like Young, Billings worked as the town’s assessor and code enforcement officer before becoming the manager.

On Tuesday, Young said he is pleased to be working alongside Billings to make for an easy transition. Thanks to town employees and members of various boards and committees, the town is running smoothly, he added.

Young lives in Dedham. He and his wife Pearl plan to move to Tremont in the spring.
