ELLSWORTH — The former Penobscot County finance director has been hired as Hancock County’s new county administrator.
Scott Adkins of Charleston replaces Eugene Conlogue, who worked a year before he and the Hancock County Commissioners decided he should depart.
The commissioners hired Adkins during a special meeting April 22.
Adkins is currently the town manager of Milford, a position he has held for seven months. He will leave that position Friday, May 13, and will then start work here.
Adkins had been interested in the Hancock County administrator job previously.
“When this position opened a second time, I couldn’t not apply,” he said. “Basically this turned out to be an offer I couldn’t refuse.”
Adkins has degrees in business management and accounting.
Before Milford and Penobscot County, Adkins spent a couple years working for a trucking firm. Prior to that he was employed by Eastern Fine Paper.
Hancock County will pay Adkins $75,000 annually.
The Corinth native is married to Lori Adkins. They have two daughters in high school, Brittany and Brianna.
The couple have no plans to move to the area until their youngest daughter graduates next year.
The commute takes about an hour, Adkins said.
“Eventually I think we would like to settle in this area,” he said.
Lamoine State Park is one of the family’s favorite camping spots.
