Motorcyclist dies in collision with trash truck

MILBRIDGE — The Maine State Police report that a Gouldsboro man died following a collision with a trash truck while riding his motorcycle on Cherryfield Stretch in Milbridge Aug. 17.

Elwood Davenport was 61 and died later of his injuries, said Trooper Jarid Leonard.

Davenport had been on his bike in the oncoming lane to pass traffic when his motorcycle struck a turning trash truck, police said.

Dwain Beal, 68, of Milbridge was driving the trash truck, Leonard said. Beal was not injured.

Several agencies assisted at the scene including the Maine State Police Traffic Safety Division, Epping Fire Department, LifeFlight and Cherryfield Ambulance. Several citizens stopped to help as well, police said.
