GOULDSBORO — Police issued a verbal warning Jan. 7 to a 78-year-old Winter Harbor man for driving his farm tractor on the Pond Road, police said.
Police said they told the man that under state law he can only drive his tractor on his farm, to travel to other farm properties and to obtain fuel or have the tractor repaired.
Over the past several months, police in Gouldsboro and Winter Harbor have received numerous complaints about the man, who rides with his daughter by his side while she collects redeemable bottles and cans by the side of the road.
Police posted the warning on the department’s Facebook page, where it elicited a flurry of comments both commending police for addressing a safety hazard and scolding them for interfering with the man’s means of generating income.
One man wrote: “Let’s get rid of all white cars as well. They are hard to distinguish from the snow in the winter months.”
