Man killed in Township 22 crash

ELLSWORTH — An Indian Township man died after he was thrown from his motorcycle, which was hit head-on by a sedan while traveling on Airline Road in Township 22 May 7, according to Maine Public Safety spokeswoman Shannon Moss.

Meanwhile, the operator of the sedan fled on foot and was arrested a short time later near the scene of the crash, Moss said.

The deceased is Charles Brown, 49.

“Brown sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene,” Moss said.

Police arrested the driver of the sedan, Daniel Lyons, 48, of Veazie, on charges of aggravated operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant and manslaughter. Lyons was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital, Moss said.

The Maine Warden Service, the Maine Department of Transportation and the Osborn Fire Department assisted police at the scene.
