Man killed in T34 crash

ELLSWORTH — A Lowell man died after his pickup truck went off the road, hit trees and overturned on its roof on a remote road in Township 34 Wednesday, Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland reported.

Gary Haskell was 53. He sustained “severe trauma injuries” and died at the scene, McCausland said.

Haskell’s passenger, Pamela Ireland, 47, also of Lowell, was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. There was no word on Ireland’s condition Thursday.

Neither had been wearing seat belts, police said.

The crash occurred when Lowell was operating a GMC Sierra on the Morrison Ridge Road.

Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash, McCausland said.

In addition to the Maine State Police, forest rangers and game wardens responded to the scene as well as firefighters from the Milford and Burlington fire departments.
