Maine State Police log week of August 4

ELLSWORTH — A Sedgwick man was arrested July 31 after allegedly damaging and threatening to burn down a residence.

Travis Ruggiero, 33, was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and terrorizing after Trooper Travis Chapman and Cpl. Owen Reed responded to the Sedgwick residence.

Also on July 31, Trooper Steven Mahon responded to a threatening complaint in Hancock.

“It was found that Christopher Nicoll (57) of Pennsylvania, had pointed a firearm at several people after a confrontation,” according to police.

Nicoll was arrested and charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office assisted.


Trooper Kim Sawyer summoned Nicole Merritt, 39, of Lambert Lake on a charge of theft by unauthorized taking, Class C on July 28 after an investigation into “financial exploitation,” according to police.

Sawyer and Trooper Josh Lander interviewed Merritt. Detective Ben Sweeney administered a polygraph.

Possession of firearms

Cpl. Reed arrested Daniel Bergin, 42, of Blue Hill on a charge of possession of firearms by a felon July 30.

Following a request for a well-being check, police obtained a warrant to search Bergin’s home. Four firearms were found, according to police.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office assisted on scene.


Arthur Taylor, 62, of Addison was arrested on a charge of terrorizing July 30 after reportedly sending explicit threats. The incident occurred in Milbridge.

Operating after suspension

A stop for a vehicle defect on Route 1 in Ellsworth July 27 resulted in charges for the driver.

Cpl. Blaine Silk stopped the vehicle operated by Alexander Lawrence, 31, of Franklin.

“Alexander has a suspended driver’s license for OUI and is currently on bail with conditions not to possess alcohol,” according to the report. “Alcohol was visible in the vehicle.”

Lawrence was arrested and charged with operating after suspension and violating conditions of release.

Arrests and summonses

Martin Hipsky, 54, of Ohio, violating conditions of release.

Austin Britton, 19, of Sullivan, criminal speed (100 mph in a 45-mph zone).

Mark Olsson, 56, of Barring Plantation, operating under the influence (drugs), violating conditions of release, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and failure to provide evidence of insurance.

Christopher Parks, 56, of Blue Hill, operating after suspension.
