Maine State Police Log: Lamoine standoff shooter remains in custody

ELLSWORTH — A Lamoine man who engaged police in a standoff Feb. 18 was still incarcerated at the Hancock County Jail Tuesday.

James Day Sr., 47, was charged with domestic violence criminal threatening and violating his bail conditions after a standoff at his home, Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland reported.

“More than 20 police officers responded to the double-wide mobile home at 72 Needles Eye Road, after Day fired four shots inside the home from a rifle,” McCausland said. “Three persons inside the home left and state troopers, game wardens, Marine Patrol officers and Hancock County deputies responded.”

Day surrendered about four hours later after talking by phone to a trooper, McCausland said. No one was injured.


Cpl. Dan Ryan charged two Stonington residents after one rear-ended the other’s vehicle and pushed it off the roadway Feb. 17.

Delwin Eaton, 59, was driving a pickup truck, which rear-ended a Honda belonging to Kyle Nevells, 18, Ryan said.

Ryan summoned Eaton on charges of driving to endanger and reckless conduct.

Ryan summoned Nevells on a charge of operating a motor vehicle without insurance.


A stop of a vehicle for allegedly speeding on Route 9 in Aurora Feb. 16 led to charges for three youths.

Sgt. Tim Varney and Trooper Jacob Ferland summoned Harold Fickett, 19, of Clifton on charges of speeding and possession of a usable amount of marijuana.

Police charged Andrew Jones, 18, of Aurora with possession of a usable amount of marijuana.

Finally, Dillon Cosgro, 20, of Bangor was summoned on a charge of sale or use of drug paraphernalia.


Trooper Caleb McGary is investigating a theft in Blue Hill that was reported Friday.
