Little delay

MOUNT DESERT – Road repairs that were expected to close the main road into Northeast Harbor for the entire weekend were completed early and both lanes of Route 198, south of the intersection with the Eagle Lake Road (Rte. 233) were open by Saturday morning.

Maine Department of Transportation officials had warned the public that the road would be closed from 6 p.m. Friday evening to 6 a.m. Monday morning. However, the work was completed by daybreak on Saturday.

Granite ceiling slabs in a culvert below the road were replaced with reinforced concrete.

While work was under way traffic was detoured across the Eagle Lake Road to Bar Harbor and along Rte. 2 through Otter Creek and Seal Harbor.
