Lesson in Deer Isle: Every vote counts

DEER ISLE — A single vote does count, especially in Deer Isle, which will hold a special town meeting April 22 to decide the post of road commissioner.

A meeting time has not yet been determined.

Town officials conducted a recount for road commissioner on March 6 after Deer Isle’s two candidates were just one vote apart at the March 3 Town Meeting.

Candidate Mark Cormier had received 207 votes and Ken Eaton 206 at Town Meeting.

The recount however, was even closer.

“It was a dead tie, 207 to 207,” said Deer Isle Town Clerk Becky Knowlton. “It’s really rare. It’s a really good lesson that your vote does count.
