MOUNT DESERT — Town selectmen have approved the closure of Jordan Pond Road to through traffic for up to two-and-a-half months next summer while Stanley Brook Road in Acadia National Park is closed for bridge repair work.
Selectman Dennis Shubert suggested that, because Seal Harbor is between Northeast Harbor and Blackwoods Campground, both of which are served by the Island Explorer, it should be easy to alter routes temporarily to include Seal Harbor.
Town officials have said they realize that closing Jordan Pond Road to through traffic for the second half of next summer will cause some inconvenience. Selectman Martha Dudman said they understand that, because of environmental regulations, late summer is the only time the park can do the Stanley Brook Road bridge work.
Park officials will talk with Downeast Transportation about the possibility of providing service to Seal Harbor.
