It’s Official: Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School to Open in Fall

ELLSWORTH — The School Committee voted last week to name the new pre-K-8 school the Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School.

The name received the most votes in a public survey. Other suggestions included the Know Moore School, the Skool of Awesomeness and the Happy School.

“We had some very interesting, somewhat comical answers that came in,” said Interim Superintendent Katrina Kane.

Ten Ellsworth Middle School cheerleaders announced the new name in an original cheer at a March 19 committee meeting.

Kane said the name reflects the fact the new school will combine different age groups.

While it will be one large school, elementary students and middle school students will have different wings.

Students in grades four through eight are scheduled to move in to the new school this fall. Younger students are to move in the following year.
