Huckleberries moves to downtown Bucksport

BUCKSPORT — It’s a sign that the tide could be turning for businesses in Bucksport. Last week, Main Street welcomed a new addition to its growing downtown, Huckleberries Cards & Gifts.

Owned by Diane Stimpson and her husband, Lee, Huckleberries was a Brewer staple for the past two and a half years, carrying everything from greeting cards to souvenirs, home goods and last-minute gifts.

But the Stimpsons wanted a change, both professionally and personally. The longtime Brewer residents decided to move both their home and business to Bucksport.

Diane Stimpson said she was happy at the former Wilson Street location, but it didn’t have an inviting and “nice greeting card feel.”

She said she loves the new Bucksport location at 81 Main St., which had its grand opening July 20.

“I wanted to be in a small town and especially one like Bucksport, which is trying to reinvent itself,” Stimpson said. “To be a part of that is very exciting to me.”

Huckleberries caters to both locals and visitors with many items under $5.

“We carry unique items that are affordable. I look for items made in Maine,” she said.

Huckleberries stocks Stonewall Kitchen jams and sauces, candles from Yankee Candle Co., baby clothes and accessories, pet supplies, puzzles and “the biggest selection of cookie cutters around.”

Maine and Bucksport-branded souvenirs, holiday ornaments, kitschy signs and outdoor flags also are sold.

“We have small gifts for Christmas presents or for an office party, so anyone can come in and get an affordable gift,” Stimpson said.

Huckleberries is located at 81 Main St. and is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will be open on Sundays ahead of the holiday season. For more information, call 702-9352 or visit www.huckleberriescardandgift.com or www.facebook.com/huckleberriescardandgift.
