BUCKSPORT — Getting healthier and losing weight are common resolutions for the new year and the Bucksport Bay Healthy Communities Coalition has a plan for you to do just that.
The coalition is launching its third Get Fit-Let’s Go nine-week team challenge for a healthier lifestyle on Jan. 11.
The program is based on the book “The Town That Lost a Ton” as well as the Lose & Win program that was held in Ellsworth a few years ago, said Mary Jane Bush, the coalition’s health planning director.
“It’s worked, which is great,” said Bush.
The numbers speak for themselves.
Last year, 14 teams with 10 members each participated.
“Those 140 folks lost 958 pounds,” Bush said. The participants increased their activity level a total of 3,174 hours.
Here’s how to participate. Find a team or form one yourself and call Bush to sign up at 469-6682. There is a fee of $10 per person.
The teams will gather every Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Bucksport Middle School auditorium.
Teams could be friends, family members, fellow parishioners or co-workers. You don’t have to live in Bucksport to participate.
