Maine Coast Memorial Adds Urgent Care Clinic

ELLSWORTH — It’s early Saturday morning, and your throat feels like it’s on fire.

Strep throat? Maybe, maybe not.

Typically, a person in this situation would have two options: call the doctor Monday morning and hope to get in quickly, or decide that’s too long to wait and take a trip to the emergency room Saturday.

Each option has obvious downsides: waiting may not be best for one’s health, while a trip to the ER will cost more.

For some people in Hancock County, however, a third option — easier than a regular doctor’s appointment, and less expensive than the ER — now exists.

In early September, Maine Coast Memorial Hospital launched an Urgent Care Clinic offering Saturday appointments, located at Ellsworth Family Practice.

The 32 Resort Way location is also home to several other MCMH practices.

The appointments are open to established patients — people who have a primary care physician at Ellsworth Family Practice or another MCMH practice — and are offered between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday.
