ELLSWORTH — Hospice Volunteers of Hancock County is partnering with Sage Maine (advocacy and services for LGBT elders) and several community partners sponsoring an organization-certification training to enhance service to members of the elder LGBT community.
Co-sponsored by Downeast Community Partners, Healthy Peninsula, the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center and Friends in Action, this training will be held Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the Ellsworth Public Library.
Two identical sessions are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1-5 p.m.
The SAGECARE Maine Certification Training covers:
- The basics about what LGBT means.
- Stories of LGBT older adults and how their lives are affected by societal attitudes and organizational structures that stigmatize and discriminate against them.
- Skills/policies that will enhance individual and organizational capacity to work more effectively with LGBT older adults.
The program is free and open to representatives of organizations wishing to be certified by SAGECARE Maine.
