Head-on crash on Bangor Road sends three to area hospitals

ELLSWORTH — Two people sustained serious injuries Sept. 27 in a three-car accident on Bangor Road near the Christian Ridge Road intersection.

Raquime Robinson, 26, of Bar Harbor, was driving south when his passenger car crossed the centerline, striking a pickup truck headed north on Bangor Road. Robinson’s passenger was ejected, and the pickup rolled onto its passenger side in the ditch of the northbound lane.

Robinson was uninjured. His passenger, whose name was not provided by police, was taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center with potentially life-threatening injuries and was listed as critical but stable on Sept. 29, according to an Ellsworth Police Department press release.

The pickup’s driver, Robert Gallant, 80, of Old Town, was also seriously injured and taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center. He underwent multiple surgeries and was listed in critical condition on Sept. 29. His passenger, who was not named in the press release, was taken to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital with minor injuries.

A third vehicle was struck by Robinson’s car when it spun into traffic after striking the pickup, but the driver, Lewis Pinkham, 67, of Milbridge, and his unnamed passenger were not injured.

The morning accident hung up commuter traffic for nearly two hours.

The crash remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time.
