ELLSWORTH — Hancock County no longer has a county administrator.
“We came to a mutual agreement that I should terminate that position, so the commissioners will vote to do that tomorrow [Tuesday, Feb. 2],” said former administrator Eugene Conlogue. “I thought things were going relatively well, but I shouldn’t be surprised.”
Conlogue was Hancock County’s first administrator. He started Feb. 16, 2015.
The commissioners held a special meeting Friday, Jan. 22, to vote on a 2016 budget. After the budget portion, the board held an executive session to evaluate Conlogue.
“During the evaluation process a week ago Friday, it become apparent it would be better for me to move on,” Conlogue said.
The commissioners, during their regular monthly meeting Tuesday, voted 2-1 to approve a separation agreement with Conlogue.
Commissioners Steve Joy and Antonio Blasi voted in favor of the agreement. Commissioner Percy “Joe” Brown voted against.
“It’s really a no-cause,” agreement said Board Chairman Joy when asked about the separation.
The county will pay Conlogue eight weeks of severance and three weeks of vacation. The county will also pay Conlogue’s health insurance through April. That agreement is according to Conlogue’s employment contract.
What’s next for the county?
“We are going to operate under the county clerk system,” said Joy, at least until the county has finished paying Conlogue’s salary. “Then we’ll decide what we’re going to do.”
Cynthia DePrenger is the county clerk.
Conlogue said he also appreciated working with Hancock County employees and for the residents.
“I have enjoyed it,” Conlogue said. “I thank the commissioners for the opportunity to serve.”
