GOP presidential caucus is March 5

ELLSWORTH — The Maine GOP’s Hancock County caucus is scheduled for Saturday, March 5.

The caucus starts at 8 a.m. at Ellsworth High School, 299 State St. in Ellsworth.

Participating municipalities include Amherst, Aurora, Bar Harbor, Blue Hill, Brooklin, Brooksville, Bucksport, Castine, Cranberry Isles, Dedham, Deer Isle, Eastbrook, Ellsworth, Franklin, Frenchboro, Gouldsboro, Great Pond, Hancock, Lamoine, Mariaville, Mount Desert, Orland, Osborn, Otis, Penobscot, Sedgwick, Sorrento, Southwest Harbor, Stonington, Sullivan, Surry, Swan’s Island, Tremont, Trenton, Verona Island, Waltham and Winter Harbor.

The schedule of events is as follows:

  • 8 a.m. – Doors open. Registration for new voters/changes in enrollment.
  • 9 a.m. – Voter registration ends. Municipal organizational caucuses begin. Presidential vote opens.
  • 10 a.m. – Presidential speeches.
  • 11 a.m. – Other speakers. Caucuses complete any unfinished business.

 Noon – Presidential vote closes; ballots counted.

Voters must present a photo ID to vote in the presidential nominating caucus. All participants will have their names checked to the current voter rolls.

The caucus site will have a one-hour voter registration/enrollment period for voters who are currently registered as “unenrolled.” Those who are not registered to vote will have an opportunity to join the Republican Party and vote.
