Friends in Action Senior Center reopens

ELLSWORTH — The Friends in Action Senior Center will start to reopen its programs on Thursday, July 1, with the popular Visit with Friends Coffee House, a social coffee morning offered at no charge. Older adults are welcome to attend any time between 9 and 11 a.m. on Thursdays for coffee and light refreshments.

Many of the Senior Center programs will return during July and August.

“This will be a gradual reopening,” said Executive Director Jo Cooper, pointing to many older people’s caution since COVID-19. “Programs will depend on how comfortable people feel and what they are looking for.”

An honor system will be maintained for mask wearing. Unvaccinated people will be asked to wear a mask, but no proof of vaccination will be required. Leaders of individual classes may require masks if they desire. A variety of former programs, including pastels, Wednesday Painters and the free writing group, will resume.

Other programs starting in July include new fitness classes, starting on various dates. Registration is encouraged. Fees are $60 for a 10-visit pass or $8 for a day pass. Former participants may have a credit from 2020 and should inquire about any balance.

Fitness classes will include a class at UBE Fitness and Physical Therapy, chair yoga, Move & Tone, Tai Chi and more. For a current schedule, visit or email [email protected] The Senior Center will be closed for the July 4 holiday on Monday, July 5.
