Friends in Action launches senior center campaign

The former Moore School on State Street – now the Moore Community Center – is undergoing major renovations. Friends in action has launched a capital campaign to raise money for a senior center that will be housed in the building.

ELLSWORTH — Friends in Action is launching a $200,000 fundraising campaign to equip and operate the new Senior Center on State Street.

Friends in Action is a nonprofit organization that offers free services to elderly and disabled residents in Hancock County.

The “Friends Campaign” budget includes funds for first-year operating costs as well as equipment for a fitness room, art studio, café, classroom furnishings and office furniture.

On Tuesday, Bar Harbor Bank & Trust donated $5,000 to Friends in Action, bringing the campaign total to $23,500.

The center also will house the Down East Family YMCA’s childcare programs. It is scheduled for completion this fall.
