SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Jill Freundlich, a summer resident of Southwest Harbor, has been named Citizen of the Year by the Southwest Harbor and Tremont Chamber of Commerce.
Freundlich volunteers at the Southwest Harbor Public Library, the chamber’s visitor center, the Common Good Café and the solid waste transfer station’s Swap Shop donation center.
At the library, she does…well, pretty much anything that needs to be done in the children’s room and for Summer Story Camp, the literacy program for children.
“I cannot think of anything here that she’s not involved with,” said Children’s Librarian Susan Plimpton. “We have no end of projects, and she seems to have no end of energy, so we’re incredibly lucky to have her. It’s a real lift when she gets back for the summer.”
Freundlich lives in California most of the year.
“Even as a summer resident, Jill goes above and beyond what many year-round residents do in any given year in helping around the community,” chamber officials said in a press release announcing the selection of Freundlich.
The award will be presented at a cocktail party at the Causeway Club in Southwest Harbor on July 13 as part of the annual Quietside Flamingo Festival.
