ORLAND — The League of Women Voters-Downeast will present a program titled “The Free Press and a Functioning Democracy” on Friday, Feb. 15, from 10 to 11 a.m. on WERU-FM.
Topics up for discussion are democracy, journalism and the state of American news.
Listener questions will be taken by email at [email protected]. Questioners are asked to put “Democracy Forum” in the subject line.
This program is being produced as part of a project on journalism and democracy with support from the Maine Humanities Council. Co-sponsors are The Ellsworth American and the Mount Desert Islander.
On the guest panel are Earl Brechlin, founding editor of the Mount Desert Islander, and former editor of the Bar Harbor Times; Burt Neuborne, Norman Dorsen Professor of Civil Liberties and founding legal director of the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU Law School and Judy Woodruff, anchor and managing editor of the PBS Newshour.
This program is part of a regular monthly radio series, “Democracy Forum” that focuses on topics of participatory democracy. The series is produced by the League of Women Voters-Downeast in cooperation with WERU FM.
