BAR HARBOR — Jean Barker, 87, a woman noted for her service to her church, area volunteer organizations, and who was town clerk for more than 30 years, passed away on Sunday.

According to a family member, Mrs. Barker died at the Mount Desert Island Hospital after being admitted several days earlier for treatment of a series of minor medical problems.

Last fall, town officials and residents gathered at the renovated green space adjacent to the U.S. Post Office on Cottage Street to dedicate the area as Barker Park in acknowledgement of Mrs. Barker’s many years of service.

Funeral service information will be published when it becomes available.
