Firefighters contract approved

BAR HARBOR — A new, three-year contract between the Professional Fire Fighters of Bar Harbor union and the town was approved by town councilors last week.

The contract, which was approved by unanimous vote, calls for annual cost of living raises of at least 1 percent and not to exceed 3 percent, while also extending the distance from Bar Harbor firefighters are allowed to live from 29 to 39 miles. Also under the terms of the contract, emergency responder paramedics with certain specialized training will receive an hourly stipend increase of between $.60 and $1 over the course of the three-year term. The contract will be available for review in the town office once it is signed by all parties.
