LAMOINE — A farmhouse and pickup truck are both total losses following a fire late Wednesday night, according to the Lamoine Fire Department.

Deputy Fire Warden Stu Marckoon said firefighters received a call about 11:33 p.m. Dec. 30 about a fire at 137 Needles Eye Road.

Firefighters from Lamoine, Hancock, Trenton and Ellsworth found the single-family residence and a 2004 GMC pickup truck in the driveway engulfed in flames.

“There was nothing we could do to save anything because the house was already in a state of starting to collapse,” Marckoon said.

He said the homeowner, Jesse Stetler, 36, was visiting a friend at the time and had his dog with him. A cat at the house was not injured, Marckoon said.

Stetler, who said he has homeowner’s insurance, was notified about the fire by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, Marckoon said.

An investigator with the State Fire Marshal’s Office was at the scene Dec. 31 to try and determine the cause of the fire.
